I keep my investing as simple as I can. I’ve found it to be the most effective strategy over a long period of time. I search for the stable financial companies, most of which have a long history of paying dividends and increasing those dividends over time. Ideally, these companies sell products or services that consumers and businesses alike will continue to buy through good economic times and bad.

I will normally hold no more than ten of these stocks in my portfolio and keep them for as long as the financial figures are sound as this allows me to keep vigilant to a company and its ever-changing business in today’s rapid economy. I will sell when I see business deteriorating and competition begins to overtake them, or in manycases, a product becomes obsolete.

I do NOT trade very frequently but won’t hesitate to sell a stock where it is clear I have made a mistake. But again, most of the companies I am buying are stable and do not normally fluctuate wildly. I will therefore sit back and be content to collect an ever growing stream of dividends as the years pass while occasionally buying some shares of a fast growing stock with a small portion of the portfolio in an attempt to give a quick boost to rate of return.
